"Unable to Determine System Default Collation" error when installing MSDE
If you are installing the MSDE portion of SOS and get an error that says "Unable to Determine System Default Collation" there are probably some settings in Regional and Language Options that need to be changed.
1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel then click on Regional and Language Options.
2. On the 'Regional and Language Options' window, make sure it says 'English (United States)' to the left of the Customize button. If not, change it to 'English (United States)'
3. Click on the Customize button (it will open a new window called 'Customize Regional Options')
4. Click on the Date tab.
5. In the drop down box next to Short date format: select M/d/yyyy and in the Long date format: select dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy
6. Click on Advanced. In the drop down box under 'Language for non-Unicode programs, make sure it says 'English (United States)'
7. Click Ok when done (it will close that window) then click OK on the Regional and Language Options window.
